Welcome to the Fall After-School Program at Main St. Board Game Cafe!
Our weekly 2-hour drop-off classes will teach students to plan ahead, strategize, multi-task, and problem-solve, boosting their confidence and sportsmanship in a supportive, screen-free environment. Check out our class descriptions below for more details!
Board Game Clubs
In these curriculum-based enrichment classes, kids will learn a wide variety of strategic games with our expert staff while having a blast with friends. Starting with simple puzzle games and progressing to complex, multi-layered strategy games, students will boost their game knowledge in a fun, caring, and individualized environment. Game choices are custom-picked for each age group to highlight a range of cognitive skills. Playing games face-to-face helps kids develop their social, critical thinking, and creative talents in a totally unique way, and provides hours of screen-free fun!
This group focuses on the basics of strategy, introducing students to puzzle, word, and action-based games that will jump-start their reading and problem-solving skills. We will be playing new games each week, including Quarto, Dixit, Carcassonne, and Machi Koro.
This group ventures into more advanced games, introducing students to multi-layered strategies that will challenge them to plan ahead, multi-task, and hone their reading and math skills. We will be playing new games each week, including Sagrada, Takenoko, Imhotep, and Catan.
Role-playing games, or RPGs, are interactive storytelling games in which players create their own characters and shape the story as it unfolds. RPGs have long been a fantastic way to spend a screen-free afternoon with friends, and they can also be a great way to boost math, reading, and collaborative problem-solving skills. All sessions are guided by our expert Game Masters, and we are always happy to teach those new to the world of RPGs.
This club will introduce students to the basics of RPGs, giving them the tools to create their own characters and jump right in to a story. We will begin with a few simpler, rules-light RPG systems such as Dungeon World and Fate, and work up to playing a multi-session campaign of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
Our beginner-friendly high school club will explore a variety of RPGs, beginning with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and expanding into games like Starfinder and Shadowrun. These games involve more number-crunching and carefully considered play, requiring a high level of thought and cooperation among students, and resulting in a rich and rewarding story experience.
Below is our Fall 2019 schedule, with programs beginning Monday Sept. 16th and ending Thursday Dec. 19th.
PLEASE NOTE: Registration for our clubs is on a rolling basis, so even if you missed a week or two,
you can still register for the rest of the semester, and you will only pay for the remaining weeks.
Cancellation and Missed Classes Policy
Cancellations for the semester are accepted and will receive a full refund up to 2 weeks before the start of programs (Sept. 1 deadline). Missed classes can be made up during our week of make-up classes from Monday Jan. 6 - Thursday Jan. 9, or can be made up on a different day that the same class is offered. Please give us 24 hours notice if a class needs to be missed so that we can work with you to schedule a make-up. If a make-up is not possible, we will provide 2 walk-in-play passes (children’s pass for students 12 years or younger, or regular pass for teens) as compensation for the class.
