Welcome to the Fall After-School Program at Main St. Board Game Cafe!
Our weekly 2-hour drop-off classes will teach students to plan ahead, strategize, multi-task, and problem-solve, boosting their confidence and sportsmanship in a supportive, screen-free environment. Check out our class descriptions below for more details!
Board Game Clubs
In these curriculum-based enrichment classes, kids will learn a wide variety of strategic games with our expert staff while having a blast with friends. Starting with simple puzzle games and progressing to complex, multi-layered strategy games, students will boost their game knowledge in a fun, caring, and individualized environment. Game choices are custom-picked for each age group to highlight a range of cognitive skills. Playing games face-to-face helps kids develop their social, critical thinking, and creative talents in a totally unique way, and provides hours of screen-free fun!
This group focuses on the basics of strategy, introducing students to puzzle, word, and action-based games that will jump-start their reading and problem-solving skills. We will be playing new games each week, including Quarto, Dixit, Carcassonne, and Machi Koro.
This group ventures into more advanced games, introducing students to multi-layered strategies that will challenge them to plan ahead, multi-task, and hone their reading and math skills. We will be playing new games each week, including Sagrada, Takenoko, Imhotep, and Catan.
Role-playing games, or RPGs, are interactive storytelling games in which players create their own characters and shape the story as it unfolds. RPGs have long been a fantastic way to spend a screen-free afternoon with friends, and they can also be a great way to boost math, reading, and collaborative problem-solving skills. All sessions are guided by our expert Game Masters, and we are always happy to teach those new to the world of RPGs.
Junior High (Grades 6-8)
This club will introduce students to the basics of RPGs, giving them the tools to create their own characters and jump right in to a story. We will begin with a few simpler, rules-light RPG systems such as Dungeon World and Fate, and work up to playing a multi-session campaign of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
High School (Grades 9-12)
Our beginner-friendly high school club will explore a variety of RPGs, beginning with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and expanding into games like Starfinder and Shadowrun. These games involve more number-crunching and carefully considered play, requiring a high level of thought and cooperation among students, and resulting in a rich and rewarding story experience.
Below is our Fall 2019 schedule, with programs beginning Monday Sept. 16th and ending Thursday Dec. 19th:
